How to Keep Your Cool When the Mercury is Rising

When the heat is rising to record-breaking levels, it can be really tough to stay cool. This summer, I found that my air conditioner had trouble keeping up with the temperatures. It wasn't that the AC wasn't working, it was just that I couldn't seem to get my house cooled down as much as I wanted. I worried that I would have to replace the whole AC system. Luckily, I have a good friend who works as an HVAC contractor. He took a look at my system and gave good news -- it didn't need to be replaced. Instead, he shared a lot of tips for helping my air conditioner work more efficiently, as well as some ideas to help supplement the AC and keep the house cooler. I'm using those tips to create this blog to share ways for all of us to keep cool on the hottest days.

Are people in your house having more sneezing attacks than usual? The air conditioning could be to blame. This important appliance is responsible for the quality of air in your house. When the air conditioning is faulty, poor air circulation leads to the accumulation of pollutants, which make your family ill. Why should you be keen on air conditioning maintenance?

Keep Indoor Air Quality Healthy

If you have air conditioning, you will likely keep the door and windows closed for temperature stability. But this presumes your air conditioning is circulating the air efficiently. When the air conditioning is faulty, the air in the house becomes stale and accumulates pollutants. Some common indoor pollutants include dust, mold, and mildew. There are also Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from domestic products such as detergents. Air conditioning maintenance ensures your AC  is pumping fresh air in and evacuating stale air from the house. Besides keeping the house smelling fresh, it removes these pollutants from the house.

Discourage  Mold and Mildew Growth

Mold grows in damp and humid conditions, which can develop if the air conditioning is faulty. Mold spores cause respiratory problems, including allergies. Mold growth is especially dangerous for people living with asthma because it causes aggravated asthmatic attacks. You need regular air conditioning maintenance to keep the air in the house free of excess humidity. It discourages mold and mildew growth and wards off associated ailments.

Reduce  Risks of  Heat Strokes

A faulty AC exposes your family to heat-related ailments. Elderly people, very young children, or sick people are more at risk of developing heat stroke. Even perfectly healthy people can suffer from heat exhaustion when exposed to hot and humid conditions for long.  Air conditioning maintenance in the hot season ensures people in the house are comfortable and protected against very high temperatures. You should call the AC technician at the beginning of the hot season to tune up the AC and keep it in peak performance.

Improve Sleeping Patterns

Healthy sleeping patterns are very important to physical and mental health. Hot and humid conditions in the house make it hard for people to sleep well. Poor sleep patterns can make people irritable and constantly fatigued. It also lowers body immunity, making people vulnerable to ailments like the common cold and flu.  Air conditioning maintenance ensures your family enjoys their sleep. Everyone in the house remains vibrant and in a good mood. They will also be less susceptible to ailments and save you much money on medical bills. Are you worried about your indoor air quality and comfort in the house? Talk to an HVAC contractor about air conditioning maintenance.
